Finding Space with God

Halberton Methodist Church (EX16 7AF)

Saturday 16 November 2019

10.30am – 3.30pm

Alison Woolley will lead the November ‘Life Rhythms’ quiet day, which she describes below.  You can read more about her work on her website

There are 24 places available.  Please secure yours by emailing or by phoning 07463 992133 as soon as possible.

The costs will be covered by anonymous donations on the day.  We suggest a contribution of £25 per person, to include a bread and soup lunch, tea and coffee.  Because we do not wish however to exclude anyone for whom the cost would be prohibitive, Halberton Methodist Church has agreed to offer its  premises free of charge and to underwrite any shortfall.

Alison writes:

We all have times when our prayer feels dry or it’s difficult to be attentive to God. This experiential workshop will encourage you to explore how silence can deepen your relationship with God, with yourself and with others. The day will intentionally offer different ways of doing this so that whatever your learning style there will be something you’ll enjoy!  We’ll think about what we mean by ‘silence’, glimpse into Christianity’s history of silence based prayer, try out ideas for developing your own practices of silence and clarify some confusions of language around silence-based prayer. There will be a creative activity, discussion in pairs, small groups and in plenary, some exploratory writing, and a closing period of worship all together. The ideas in this workshop are rooted in my own longstanding discipline of silence and findings from my PhD research about silence in the lives of Christians today. Suitable for both people who have little or no experience of silence-based prayer and those with some experience who want to find out more.
