You probably already have small computers in your home running the Linux operating system. Many washing machine controllers, Satnav systems, TVs, Digital boxes and other small appliances like Google Android phones run on a Linux core. The Apple MAC runs on a base system very closely allied to Linux.

Because of it's inherent security, being originally designed for networks of computers, and its smaller number of users, Linux is far less prone to Viruses than other, more well known, operating systems. Linux, generally will run faster on a lower specification computer. A Program layer for Linux called WINE allows the running of many programs designed for the main commercial operating system to run on a Linux computer.
