RURAL PRESENCE:
Rural Presence is the new interactive website for Christians engaged in rural mission. It provides a forum for all Christians to share good news stories and information about the church in rural communities. The aim is to encourage and inspire mission and discipleship in rural churches. As well as being a forum for debate and story-sharing Rural Presence offers resources for rural mission, including Presence - the indispensable workbook for all churches engaging in mission in rural communities (available to download for free). [Website]
OUTLOOK TRUST:
Outlook is a Christian organisation which aims to reach older people with God's Good News about Jesus and His promise of abundant and everlasting life. Membership of Outlook is open to individuals of any age who are concerned for older people in Society and feel called to participate in mission and evangelism to them. [Website]
BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY:
Back to Church Sunday is now the largest single local-church invitational initiative in the world. It is based on the simplest and shortest step in evangelism - that we should invite someone we already know to something we love; invite our friend to our church. The initial focus was to invite 'back' those who used to attend, but anyone who doesn't currently attend can be guaranteed a specially warm welcome. [Website]
FRESH EXPRESSIONS:
This is an initiative launched jointly by the Methodist Church and the Church of England, offering a range of resources and training opportunities for churches. Courses offered include the six-week Mission Shaped Intro and the year-long Mission Shaped Ministry. [Website]
PIONEER DISCIPLE:
All over Britain, Christians are finding fresh ways of making the gospel relevant to people in their communities. The Pioneer Disciple is a one year part-time course which aims to equip people to shape the life of their church in new ways. [Website]
START!:
Devised by the Church Pastoral Aid Society (CPAS), this is a six session basic introduction to the Christian faith. The sessions use a mix of video input, discussion times and activities and space for reflection, in a down-to-earth style intended for small groups. [Website]
ESSENCE:
This is a six-session course devised by the late Rob Frost of Share Jesus International. Essence explores spirituality, or 'how we experience God'. The 6 sessions are a mixture of activities, meditation, reflection and sharing with one another.
ALPHA:
The best known course of its type, more than two million people in the UK have attended an Alpha course. Lasting about ten weeks, the course is usually based around a small group of about twelve people and combines a talk and time of discussion with a social time over a meal to help members of the group get to know each other. The District is able to offer help to anyone interested in starting or leading an Alpha or Youth Alpha course. [Website]
EMMAUS:
The Emmaus course comes in three stages. "Contact" develops contacts outside the church and prepares for the next stage. "Nurture" is a fifteen week course covering the basics of the Christian faith. "Growth" follows on from the other stages and encourages people to explore further. The District can also provide copies of the Emmaus Training Pack.
