Dear Friends

400 years ago the King James translation of the Bible was 'authorised' to be used throughout England.  400 years later, in 2011, we are celebrating the 'the year of the Bible' with Biblefresh. There will be a number of Biblefresh initiatives throughout the year.  One of the challenges is that we read the Bible!

I want to challenge you to join me in reading the Bible in a year, starting on 1 January 2011. I hope as many people as possible will join me. I know of one circuit which has bought 55 of the Methodist 'Bible in One Year' Bibles already.

Some of you have already started to think about this, others have asked questions about what support we can offer. I have included a list of resources that you might use. Remember it doesn’t matter which you choose it is reading scripture which is important. As we read we need to pray that the Spirit of God will enable us to be filled with the Living Word.

I will be using the ‘Bible in One Year’ which orders the readings into practical daily sections, including Old and New Testament, and a Psalm. I know some of you have already purchased this and will be using it. Methodist Publishing have had heavy demand for this but had a new delivery on December 15th so you may still be able to get a copy by ringing 01733 235962 or by visiting the website.

I do hope that you will join me in making 2011 the Year of your Bible reading.

Yours in Christ

Pete Pillinger, Chair of District
